A reliable order for diagnosing the rejection

  1. Confirm the processed manuscript page count

    Open the book details in KDP and use the page count after the interior file has been processed. Do not rely on the count shown in a word processor.

  2. Recalculate the full cover spread

    Use the exact trim, paper stock, and processed page count. A paper-stock or page-count mismatch changes the spine and total width.

  3. Inspect the exported file

    The PDF must contain one page whose physical width and height match the calculated spread. A raster file also needs the correct aspect ratio and enough pixels for 300 DPI.

  4. Repair the source document

    Change the document canvas, bleed guides, spine location, and safe margins in the source design. Avoid stretching a finished cover because it can distort typography and shift fold lines.

Common error patterns

Wrong size usually means the PDF page box or page count changed. A thin white edge usually means artwork does not extend through bleed. Spine warnings often come from stale page counts or text too close to fold lines. Blurry-result warnings require re-exporting from higher-resolution source assets.
